This painting was done after Basset had moved to Denver, Colorado. The influence of the English Impressionists is still evident in the handling of the symphony of greys. A certain "unfinished" quality exists in some of the surrounding spaces bearing witness to the single Iris flower being the true center of the artists attention. Click on image to see detail view.
